Jackie Review

Jackie was released today in France, the movie is directed by Pablo Larrain, written by Noah Oppenheim and starring Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard, Billy Crudup, John Hurt.

The movie takes place after the assassination of JFK, and follows Jackie Kennedy being interview by a journalist as she recalls her life before and after the terrible event. The before the assassination of JFK is mostly the television broadcast when she showed the American people the inside of the White House. The after is everything that happened up to the funerals and a little bit after. I like the way the story is told because we see it through Jackie’s perspective and that’s a unique way to tell this story.

Natalie Portman carries the whole movie on her shoulders, she is absolutely outstanding, she conveys on screen an extreme sadness but also anger and fear, it’s beautiful to see. She surely deserves her Oscar nomination!

John Hurt as the priest was a good choice, his appeasing voice really fit for the role and Peter Sarsgaard made a good Robert Kennedy.

What surprised was the way it was filmed, it really felt like it was filmed the way a movie in the ’60s would be filmed and also the visual format which added to the authenticity of the movie in a way even though it was strange at the beginning.

The music in my opinion was not of the best, for the most part it didn’t really shine. It wasn’t bad but a more piano-centered soundtrack would probably have been better for this movie.

7.5/10 A good movie with Natalie Portman at her best!
